Board Certified Emergency and Critical Care Specialists
A board-certified emergency and critical care specialist is a specially trained veterinarian dedicated to the treatment of life-threatening conditions. In addition to 4 years of veterinary school and at least 3 years of intensive residency training in emergency and critical care medicine and surgery, the veterinarian has to pass a rigorous examination to become a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, and a critical care specialist.
Dr. Lippo
Dr. Nathan Lippo attended Wayne State University for undergraduate study earning a bachelor's degree in Biology. Dr. Lippo graduated with honors from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. He went on to complete a 13-month internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, and then worked as an emergency veterinarian at a specialty referral and emergency center in Rhode Island. In July 2008, he completed a residency in emergency and critical care at VCA- Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, Maryland and is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC). Dr. Lippo enjoys all aspects of critical care medicine. He has a special interest in pain management, trauma, critical anesthesia, surgery, cardiac emergencies, and mechanical ventilation. During his free time, Dr. Lippo is an outdoor enthusiast and passionate about motorcycling. Dr. Lippo provides primary case management or supervision and guidance for the emergency doctors in evaluation, specialized monitoring, and intensive treatment of your critically ill or injured pet. He assists your decision-making process through coordination of the family veterinarian, the emergency doctor, and other specialty doctor's consultations.
