Board Certified Oncologist
A veterinary oncologist is a veterinarian who has received advanced training following veterinary school, including an internship and residency, in order to become board certified in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Board certification also requires completion of a specialty examination and publication of a research manuscript in a veterinary journal.
Dr. Fulmer
Amanda Fulmer is an Arkansas native who received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of Arkansas. She then obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. After completing an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, she returned to LSU to complete a three-year Medical Oncology residency and became board certified in 2008. She practiced Oncology in northern Virginia before joining VEC as Richmond's first veterinary oncologist. Her special interests include pain management in cancer patients, histiocytic neoplasia, and palliative treatment for end-stage patients. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys reading, fishing, and spending time with her family (both human and animal). Dr. Fulmer integrates all aspects of cancer treatment including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and alternative therapies.
