Dr. M. Daugherty
Board Certified Internal Medicine Specialist
Veterinary Specialists have a greater knowledge and understanding of disease processes including the unusual, uncommon, or rare conditions that cause illness in our pets. In addition, a Specialist has advanced diagnostic equipment not generally used by your family veterinarian. To become an Internist, a veterinarian must pursue advanced training in the area of internal medicine. In addition to completing undergraduate training and four years of veterinary school, a Board-certified Veterinary Internist has completed an internship and residency in their specialized field (an additional 3-5 years of training). During this time, they are trained by other board-certified specialists in the intricacies of internal medicine. After completion of residency, Internists must pass rigorous examinations to achieve board certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
