Board Certified Veterinary Dermatologists


 

Marlen Pariser | DVM
Dr. Pariser is our Dermatology Resident and preparing to become Board Certified in Veterinary Dermatology. She has worked with Animal Allergy and Dermatology of many years and is a native of Virginia. She received her undergraduate Degree from Radford University and her DVM from Mississippi State University. She chose to attend Mississippi State because of its unique program which allowed her to train with several different respected dermatologists throughout the country. She has completed a one-year rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and also a one-year internship in Veterinary Dermatology. She shares her home with many cats, dogs, and her husband, who is also a veterinarian. Animal Allergy and Dermatology was the first private practice on the East Coast to establish a residency training program and we are pleased to have Dr. Pariser as part of our team.

 


 

Chris Cook | DVM, DACVD
Dr. Cook is a graduate of Bucknell University. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. He performed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at a referral practice in Rochester, NY. He completed a residency in small and large animal dermatology at Cornell University where he studied with Dr. Danny Scott and Dr. Bill Miller. Dr.Cook moved to Virginia with his wife, Jennifer, two children, three dogs and two cats. Before moving to Virginia, Dr. Cook practiced in Pittsburg, PA. He joined Animal Allergy and Dermatology in the Fall of 2006.

 


 

Lynn Schmeitzel | DVM, DACVD
Dr. Schmeitzel has been practicing dermatology for over 25 years. She is a graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine and was boarded by the American College of Veterinary Medicine after completing a dermatology residency at the University of California, School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Schmeitzel was an Assistant and Associate Professor of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine from 1984 until 2000. She has been seeing referral dermatology patients at Animal Allergy and Dermatology since that time. Dr. Schmeitzel is a member of American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology (and past President), the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, The Southwest Virginia Veterinary Medical Association and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Schmeitzel has most recently lectured at Virginia Tech, Chicago, and Tidewater Veterinary Academy in Hampton Roads area.

 


 

Dunbar Gram | DVM, DACVD
Dr. Gram received his undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with high honors in 1987 from the College of Veterinary Medicine in Auburn University. Following veterinary school, he completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Illinois. Dr. Gram then completed a residency in veterinary dermatology at North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Before moving to Virginia, he served on the staff as a clinical instructor in dermatology at NCSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. He has also taught dermatology at the University of Prince Edward Island and has written as well as lectured extensively on the topic of veterinary dermatology. Dr. Gram continues to lecture and perform research in the pharmaceutical industry to better provide our patients with the latest and best dermatological care available, including lecturing in Japan, Hawaii, and California. Dr. Gram has several book chapters and journal articles that are currently in press or have been published.
